More than financial support, Woodruff Scholars gain access to resources, programming, and a community designed to help them grow, lead, and make an impact at Emory and beyond.

    • Woodruff Scholars at Emory

      Emory College Woodruff Scholars 

      At Emory College, Woodruff Scholars receive merit scholarships and enjoy early course registration, exclusive programming, and a close-knit Scholars community.

      Oxford College Woodruff Scholars 

      The Oxford College Woodruff Scholars program offers merit scholarships, early faculty mentorship, a tight-knit community, and a smooth transition to the Atlanta campus in your junior year.

    • How to Apply as a Scholar

      First-year, homeschooled, and international applicants, regardless of citizenship, can apply to be a Woodruff Scholar.

      Step 1: Select your Admission Plan

      You can choose Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision and submit all required application materials by the appropriate deadline. Learn more about admission plans.

      • November 15 for Early Decision II and Regular Decision

      Step 2: Answer “Yes” to the Scholars Question

      Your Emory Application will ask, “Are you interested in being considered for the Emory University Scholar Programs?” Answer “Yes.” You will not be considered otherwise.

    • Selection Process

      Selection for merit-based scholar programs is administered by the Office of Admission in partnership with Emory faculty.

      About 10,000 students apply to be scholars each year. From these, 175 to 200 students are selected as finalists. Scholar finalists located within the US are required to attend an on-campus Scholars Finalists Visit held in the spring, at no cost to the student.

      Taking place over several days, the visit includes activities and interviews designed to help finalists become better acquainted with Emory and the distinct opportunities available to them here.

      Applicants not selected as program finalists are still fully reviewed for admission under their selected application plan and will be automatically considered for other merit-based scholarships.

      The scholar selection process is completely separate from the financial aid process. When a student is eligible for both merit scholarships and financial aid, merit scholarships are awarded first. Students who also applied for financial aid may be eligible for need-based grants and loans if there is remaining need beyond the merit scholarship award.

    • Scholar Programs Duration

      Scholarships are renewable for a total of eight regular academic-year semesters of undergraduate study, provided students maintain high standards of personal and academic excellence and meet semester and annual requirements of their program (details provided upon acceptance).
